We ask that you arrive at the rooms at least 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment
time to complete necessary paperwork.
You will be given a patient information questionnaire to complete which gathers
demographic data and the office staff will initiate a patient chart for you. Information
on your past medical history will be gathered.
You will be called into the consultation room where you will meet with one of our
medical practitioners. You may be asked more detailed questions regarding your medical
history and any medications you are taking. You may be questioned more about any
vein related symptoms you may be experiencing and any history of clotting or thrombosis
problems.
The doctor will need to carefully examine both of your legs from the groin to the
toes. You may wish to bring loose fitting (baggy) shorts with you and ask to change
into them once in the examination room.
You will need to stand on a step for a period of time when the doctor examines your
legs. The doctor will need to put ultrasound gel on your skin to examine your deeper
veins with an ultrasound scanner. This is a painless procedure although the doctor
may need to squeeze areas of your calf, thigh and lower abdomen to check the underlying
blood flow.
After the intial exam is completed the doctor will discuss if any further testing
is required. With larger varicose veins it is often necessary to perform a mapping
ultrasound scan. This involves using a Duplex Ultrasound scanner to non-invasively
visualise veins and evaluate venous blood flow patterns.
